Dental Services in the Nelson Tasman Region
- The School Dental Service provides free dental care for children aged from 2 1/2 years (or earlier if required) up till the end of Intermediate School (Year 8).
- For adolescents aged from Year 9 (form 3) up to 18 years of age, free dental care is provided by private dentists who are contracted to provide this service.

- For adults, dental care is provided by private dentists who can be found in the yellow pages.
- For Work and Income clients a grant is available for emergency dental care of up to $300 per year.
People on a full benefit can self refer for treatment at a reduced cost through Nelson Hospital but there is a waiting list.

The SCN was established in August 2007 and is one of four regional cancer networks that have been set up in New Zealand (Northern, Central, Midland and Southern) to work with cancer continuum of care stakeholders to facilitate a number of initiatives in the Cancer Control Strategy and Action Plan 2005-2010.

Adolescent Alcohol and Other Drug Screening & Brief Intervention Workshops:
The Substances and Choices Scale (SACS) is a new youth alcohol and other drug
screening and outcome measurement instrument. Learn how to use it to enhance the assessment and management of alcohol and other drug (AOD) issues in your clients.
There are a series of 5 seminars around the country from 26th June to 8th August.
