Cochrane Library

The Cochrane Library is a collection of regularly updated evidence-based healthcare databases that can help clinicians and consumers make decisions about appropriate and effective health care. The Library brings together in one place research which looks at the effectiveness of different health care treatments and interventions.

The Cochrane Library includes systematic reviews from the Cochrane Collaboration (http://www.cochrane.org), a UK registered international charity and the world's leading producer of systematic reviews. These reviews bring together research on the effects of health care and are considered the gold standard for determining the relative effectiveness of different interventions.

The Library is an internationally renowned collection of seven internet databases of health information, updated quarterly, designed to help health care professionals make treatment decisions and inform patients about the care they receive.

The databases are:

• The Cochrane Database of Methodology Reviews
• The Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effectiveness
• The Cochrane Controlled Trials Register
• The NHS Economic Evaluation Database
• Health Technology Assessment Database

PubMed comprises more than 19 million citations for biomedical literature from MEDLINE, life science journals, and online books. Citations may include links to full-text content from PubMed Central and publisher web sites

Proquest

ProQuest is an aggregated electronic publications service providing online access to the full text of thousands of journals, newspapers and magazines as well as indexing to thousands of further publications. NZ coverage is limited but international sources are extensive.
