Type 2 Diabetes Education Aims
The Aim of Type 2 Diabetes Education is to reduce the impact and incidence of Diabetes among our community.
How do we do this?
- Provide an educational programme which promotes awareness, wellness and self management of Type 2 Diabetes
- It uses a fun learning environment and delivered in simplistic terms
- It includes involvement of whānau or family, who are at risk of Type 2 Diabetes or who are caring for someone with Type 2 Diabetes
- It includes people with a diagnosis of Pre Diabetes or Insulin Resistant
- The focus is to empower participants to be confident diabetes 'ambassador's' who can empower not only themselves to better manage their diabetes, but also to guide whānau or family towards diabetes awareness and self management support
- We promote healthy eating and physical activity options that are appropriate to the audience
- We encourage regular health checks, annual diabetes checks and flu vaccinations
- And we link to community services and options relevant to the community where the course is being provided
