Green Prescription

grx-new-sml: A Green Prescription (GRx) is a health professional's written advice to a patient to be physically active, as part of the patient's health management. It's a smart and cost-effective way to help people stay healthy.

GRx research backs this up:

  • Research published in the New Zealand Medical Journal indicates that a Green Prescription is an inexpensive way of increasing activity.
  • Research published in the British Medical Journal found that a Green Prescription can improve a patient's quality of life over 12 months, with no evidence of adverse effects.

BevPrize:

'WaterWorx' works!

During May, participants of the weekly GRx aqua fun class, 'WaterWorx' held at Ngawhatu Pool on Thursdays at 3.30pm, were encouraged to enter the 'Strength Challenge'. As maintaining strong muscles and bones is essential for good health, the challenge was to keep a tally of the strength exercises they did for the whole month, in and out of the pool. Pictured is the winner of the Strength Challenge, Bev Inwood receiving her prize from the GRx Co-ordinator, Leigh Dalzell. Well done Bev.
During June the challenge will be to focus on Flexibility and we look forward to seeing how well participants do during the colder months in keeping up with their regular stretching, as well as attending pool classes.
